What is a sworn translation in Romania?
If you need a sworn translation, it means that you need to translate a specific document into another language than the one in which it was issued. However, just the translation of the document does not equal with the meaning of a sworn translation.
In order for the translation to be considered a sworn translation, it is required that the document will be translated by a translator in Romania who is accredited by the Ministry of Justice.
The document must also contain the signature of the translator, along with the stamp of the translator. These 2 elements must be clearly observed at the end of the translation of the document.
All these elements presented here are required regardless if you want to translate a document from Estonian into Romanian or to translate it into another foreign language.
What are the costs of translation services in Romania?
Romanian translators can set up their own pricing system, as this is a private practice. The prices charged can vary based on the nature of the documents to be translated, but also based on the language.
Regarding the language, please mind that if you want to translate a document from Estonian into Romanian, this may cost more that translating the same document into more common languages, such as English or French.
While the latter languages have become very popular here and a large proportion of the country has a good command of the 2 languages, for the Estonian language, the same does not apply.

- the rules concerning the fees charged by Romanian translators and interpreters are regulated by the Civil Procedure Code, Law no.178/1997 and the Order no. 772 of 5 March 2009;
- several amendments were introduced under the Order no. 2.907/C/2.340/2020;
- under the law of 2020, an interpreter in Romania can charge minimum RON 30,91 per hour;
- Romanian translators can charge RON 44,82 per 1 page;
- a page is considered to be any A4 type of document.
These rates are charged for the activities of translators in connection to various public institutions of the state, such as Ministry of Justice, notary public offices, lawyers, and other institutions mentioned in the Order.
