What is a sworn translation?

A sworn translation is one of the legal ways through which a translated document has the same legal value as the original document. In order for a document to be considered a valid legal paper and recognized in the country where the person needs it, certain elements have to be met.

In most of the countries, when a document must be translated from a language to another, the sworn translation will be the required type of translation the authorities will request.

This also applies when one needs to translate a document from Finnish into Romanian. A sworn translation has the following characteristics:

  1. it represents an official translation from one language to another, in this case from Finnish to Romanian or vice versa;
  2. it is completed by a person who is registered as an authorized translator;
  3. the Romanian translator is authorized by the Ministry of Justice in Romania to perform this activity;
  4. the translated document contains the most appropriate translation, so that all the provisions, paragraphs, etc., of the document do not lose their meaning from one language to another;
  5. the document includes the signature of the Romanian translator;
  6. it also includes the stamp of the translator.

Thus, when the sworn translator in Finnish will process your documents, all the above elements will have to met at the same time in order for a document to be considered legally valid.

What documents are common for translators in Romania?

As said above, most of the documents Romanian or foreign authorities issue can be processed by sworn translators. For individuals, our Romanian translators are usually required to prepare sworn translations of documents such as:

  1. birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates and any other type of certificates related to the civil status of a person;
